Making Australia a Green Superpower

The Australian Federal Government is on a mission to make energy cleaner, greener, more affordable and more secure.

Decarbonisation is a key part of the national strategy to fight the climate crisis. It enables industries to transition to clean and sustainable production processes, thus delivering targeted emissions cuts. It also enables governments to secure national economies while combating climate change.

Well-conceived decarbonisation policies and programs are imperative to the future of Australia’s national economy – for businesses, government departments, industry groups, and the community. If done right, Australia will meet emissions target reductions of 43% and will provide opportunities and solutions to other nations looking for safe and green energy production, and carbon capture and storage options.

On 26-28 July, a major bilateral decarbonisation summit between Japan and Australia is being held in Sydney. 

Co-hosted by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), the 'Decarbonising Australia Business Summit: Partnering with Japan on the Transition to Net Zero' will bring together 350 of the largest Japanese and Australian companies and industry groups to meet with government officials and leading researchers to further discussion and action around decarbonisation.

In examining the most effective national and international partnerships that can be established between industry, government and research groups, Australia’s Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen, says that “collective effort and determination across all of the economy” is now required.
