We are seeking expressions of interest in touring MicroBioGen’s Macquarie Park facility as part of Australian Renewable Fuels Week.

MicroBioGen is a world-leading biotechnology company specialising in enhancing the industrial capabilities of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, commonly known as brewers’ or bakers’ yeast. This microorganism supports industries worth over US$2 trillion annually, with applications in biofuels, food, feed, beverages, pharmaceuticals and more.

  • Innova® yeast, co-developed by MicroBioGen and Novonesis, significantly improve the efficiency, economics, and sustainability of the global starch-based ethanol industry. The Innova® product suite includes both GM and Non-GM yeast products and is used worldwide.
  • MicroBioGen’s state-of-the-art Macquarie Park facility was officially opened in 2022 by the Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Senator the Hon Jenny McAllister, and the Federal Seat for Bennelong, Mr Jerome Laxale MP.
  • MicroBioGen is currently expanding its footprint due to continued growth and success, adding additional laboratory equipment, and employing additional scientists.
  • MicroBioGen’s integrated fuel and feed refinery aims to improve second-generation ethanol economics and sustainability. Part-funded by ARENA and in collaboration with Novonesis, MicroBioGen has developed optimized yeast to boost ethanol production efficiency, reduce costs and enhance sustainability. Additionally, MicroBioGen has developed non-GM yeast that converts ethanol side streams into high-protein animal feeds, supporting food supply and exports.
  • Deploying Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in Australia requires large quantities of suitable substrates and competitive costs, with a key pathway being the conversion of sugars to ethanol and then to jet fuel. Australia’s ethanol refineries can leverage MicroBioGen’s innovative yeast technology to convert ethanol production side streams into high-quality protein for animal feed, supporting Australia’s food security and economic progress goals.

MicroBioGen look forward to showcasing their cutting-edge facilities and groundbreaking work in renewable energy.
