Bioenergy Australia Webinar Series
The IPCC released their special report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5deg C in October 2018. This assessment found that, while enormously challenging, it is not impossible to meet a target of 1.5 deg, but this would require rapid decarbonisation, involving substantial changes to energy and land use. Bioenergy is foreseen as playing a major role. This webinar will present the scale of bioenergy anticipated in different mitigation scenarios, and the global models used to analyse mitigation strategies.
Presenters:
Annette Cowie - Annette is Principal Research Scientist, Climate, in the NSW Department of Primary Industries. She represents Australia on IEA Bioenergy Task 45 “Climate and Sustainability Effects of Bioenergy within the broader Bioeconomy”. Annette has a background in plant and soil science, and works on greenhouse gas accounting and sustainability assessment of agricultural systems.
Vassilis Daioglou - Vassilis is a Climate Policy Researcher at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development of Utrecht University and a guest researcher at the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency. He develops and uses global long-term models in order to assess the role of land, biomass, and bioenergy in climate change mitigation strategies.
