Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, The Hon Lily D’Ambrosio this week released Recycling Victoria: A new economy – our 10-year circular economy policy and action plan to overhaul Victoria’s recycling sector, create 3,900 jobs and reduce waste going to landfill.
Recycling Victoria will invest more than $300 million in a suite of landmark reforms dedicated to shifting Victoria to a circular economy. This package includes a statewide four-bin (or service) recycling system, a container deposit scheme, an education and behaviour change program, nearly $100 million to support businesses, drive innovation and create local jobs and $71.4 million to tackle waste crime and keep Victorians safe.
Recycling Victoria will also set ambitious new goals for improved recycling and recovery in Victoria, including reducing our reliance on landfill with a diversion target of 80 per cent. These targets will create investment certainty for businesses, while promoting jobs and growth in the industry.
Over the next decade, Recycling Victoria will drive investment in world class infrastructure and technology, create local industries, help businesses give new life to old rubbish and build a home-grown and strong recycling system for Victoria.
'Recycling Victoria is our circular economy policy – a 10-year action plan. We will invest more than $300 million to fundamentally transform our recycling sector, reduce waste, create thousands of jobs and set Victoria up for a more sustainable future.'
'Recycling Victoria will drive investment, jobs and increase the waste and recycling industry’s processing capacity. This will make sure services meet and exceed community expectations—putting an end to unethical operators and waste stockpiling.'
