Tasmanian Renewable Energy Action Plan
Published Mon 08 Jun 2020
The Tasmanian Government has identified renewable energy as a key economic driver as we rebuild a stronger Tasmania.
Tasmania can harness the immense potential in renewable energy to grow our economy, attract investment, create jobs and transform Tasmania from being Australia’s renewable energy powerhouse into a world leading provider of clean, reliable and affordable energy.
To help achieve this plan, the Government is releasing the draft Renewable Energy Action Plan which outlines our vision and suite of actions to develop renewable energy generation in Tasmania over the coming 20 years.
More than ever, now is an important time to manage the transition to renewable energy. As a result of COVID-19, there are unprecedented challenges facing Australian households and industries. Tasmanians can be assured that the Government has taken action to safeguard our energy supply as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold. As we look to the future, our renewable energy developments will form an important part of rebuilding our economy.
The Tasmanian Renewable Energy Action Plan sets out clear objectives and actions to transform Tasmania into a global Renewable Energy Powerhouse. A key pillar of our Plan will be the setting of a world leading Tasmanian Renewable Energy Target which will see Tasmania double its renewable energy generation by 2040.
By seizing Tasmania’s immense potential, renewable energy can grow our economy, attract investment, create jobs and support Australia’s transition to renewable supply.
The Tasmanian Government welcomes the opportunity to share our vision, and encourages stakeholders and community members to provide feedback on our draft Renewable Energy Action Plan.
Consultation on the Action Plan will be open for a four month period with submissions due by 11 September 2020.
Submissions can be forwarded to: renewableenergy@stategrowth.tas.gov.au
