CEO - Shahana McKenzie

Since joining Bioenergy Australia in 2017 Shahana has led the creation of important industry alliances including the Sustainable Aviation Fuels Alliance of Australia and New Zealand, the Renewable Gas Alliance and the Cleaner Fuels Alliance.  She has successfully advocated for Australia’s first Bioenergy Roadmap released by the former Energy and Climate Change Minister Angus Taylor and more recently the creation of a Jet Zero Council for Australia announced by Minister King. Shahana is the creator of the Renewable Gas Challenge charged with replacing 20% of Australia’s domestic gas with renewable sources by 2030.  Bioenergy Australia has increased membership by 400% under her tenure and now includes leading domestic and global brands. 
 
Shahana has a reputation for building strong collaborative relationships within industry and government. She previously sat on the ASBEC Cities and Infrastructure taskforces, was a co-convener of the Living Cities Alliance, a member of the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Better Cities, and was invited to sit on the Federal Government’s Cities Reference Group Chaired by the Minister for Cities, Angus Taylor. Listed in The Australian – Black Book of Green People, Shahana  founded public campaigns including the Living Cities Alliance, The International Festival of Landscape Architecture, My Park Rules, Parks Changing Australia and KIDSCAPE.
 
Shahana has been appointed as:

•            Member of the ACCC Fuel Consultative Committee
•            Member of the NSW Government Biofuels Expert Panel
•            Member of the QLD Bio futures Industry Advisory Group
•            Member of the QLD Ministerial Fuel Council

 

National Policy OfficerGeorgi York

Georgi York joined Bioenergy Australia in March 2023

Georgi graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and worked as a solicitor where she utilised her legal and professional skills to excel in her role. In 2022 Georgi became a Master of Public Policy student at the Australian National University and is committed to creating positive environmental and economic change through her work at Bioenergy Australia.

 

National Manager for Communications, Media and EventsAdele Bennett

Adele Bennett joined Bioenergy Australia in January 2023.

Adele brings over a decade of experience in communications, specialising in digital content creation and strategic communications.
She has a varied background in film, media and communications from within the public sector and NGOs, to working with international broadcasters including the BBC, National Geographic, and Discovery Chanel.
Adele has worked on award-winning natural history television productions, as well as helped craft and deliver internationally recognised marketing campaigns.
Her communication skills are bolstered by a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Communication and her passion is for sustainability and care for the environment.

 

National Membership and Administration OfficerShannon Clancy

Shannon Clancy joined Bioenergy Australia in October 2022.

Prior to her role with Bioenergy Australia Shannon has worked in the Ski Industry, with 10 years’ experience specialising in customer relations, project management and team building. Shannon has a strong commitment to the environment and is passionate about her role supporting the acceleration of Australia’s’ bioeconomy.
